After more than 30 years as a practicing Psychologist, Dr. Mize continues to be challenged by each unique client. Regardless of having the same diagnosis, each client brings his or her own unique set of genetics, experiences and view of self in the world to the therapeutic process. Issues that Dr. Mize has addressed with clients include trauma, parenting, depression, anxiety, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, sleep disturbance, chronic pain, Dissociative Identity Disorder, divorce, couples’ work, personality disorders, school issues, grief, and attachment disorder to name a few. She brings to the process skills that include EMDR (Levels I & II), Family Systems work, CBT, Functional Family Systems, Collaborative Problem Solving, and, most recently, Brainspotting. She approaches the therapeutic process with the knowledge that the “giver is also always the receiver and the receiver is always also the giver.” Consequently, she works in partnership with the client and recognizes that symptoms are valuable information rather than just problems to be addressed.
Dr. Mize’s experiences include, in addition to individual, family and couples’ therapy, court testimony, disability evaluations, forensic evaluations and psychological evaluations. She is CASI trained to complete substance abuse evaluations. She has supervised psychology interns, provisionally licensed clinicians, and clinical teams. She has worked with persons from other cultures including Hispanic, Arabic, and Vietnamese clients, usually through an interpreter.
Dr. Mize is very excited and honored to be a part of the Williamsburg practice and will work hard to be a resource for staff as she recognizes that each practitioner and staff member will be a resource for her.
Dr. Mize accepts most insurance plans as well as private pay. She can be reached through her Williamsburg e-mail (yet to be activated)
