- Autism Society of Nebraska (ASN; Lincoln Chapter) is for individuals diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder (formerly Asperger’s Disorder) who wish to network with others with similar diagnoses and to increase socialization opportunities. This free support group is lead by advocates for individuals diagnosed with ASD.
- Autism Society of Nebraska is a non-profit organization with its main headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska. They are operating a Lincoln Chapter which is devoted to developing education, resources, and supports for inidividuals living on the spectrum and families supporting a loved one on the spectrum. Autism Society of Nebraska provides free support for parents who would like answers, support and guidance from others who are in the same role. Topics include learning more about autism for parents who have a child newly diagnosed; parents who have adolescents closing in on the 18-21 transition period and for those who are parenting an “adult on the spectrum” to locate resources to access more services and support. This group meets on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at Williamsburg Behavioral Psychology, LLC from 6:30 – 8:00PM.
- A second free support group is for adults on the spectrum and is focused on developing peer support groups and expanded social circles. There are a variety of topics covered each month with the goal to increase awareness of how society impacts individuals on the spectrum but also how to develop their own social networks and become “more social”. This group has been very successful and individuals who attend monthly report high satisfaction to experience this type of connections with others with similar views and lifestyles.
